Information checked on 9 September 2026.
China Golden Week 2026 shipping planning should start with a clear picture of which orders your business needs most urgently. If you source goods or components from China, September is the time to bring purchasing, freight and customer delivery plans together.
China’s National Day holiday runs from 1–7 October 2026, following the Mid-Autumn Festival break on 25–27 September. Supplier closures and reduced staffing can affect the work needed to get goods ready for transport. Actual operating arrangements vary between businesses. See iContainers’ 2026 holiday and shipping overview.
For Australian businesses, the practical task is to identify what must move, confirm which service can carry it, and decide what happens if that plan changes.
Why Golden Week belongs on your shipping calendar now
Carriers are already adjusting selected services. On 20 August, Maersk announced Golden Week changes for its Far East Asia–Europe network, including blank sailings with listed departures in late September and October. Read Maersk’s carrier advisory.
That advisory concerns Asia–Europe services. It does not establish that your China–Australia or Australia–Nigeria booking has been cancelled. Its relevance is the planning signal: check the actual carrier, voyage and connections attached to your shipment instead of relying on a general holiday forecast.
Ask your forwarder to distinguish between an indicative schedule and a confirmed booking. Then identify who will tell you about a change and how quickly your purchasing or sales team needs to respond.
Give every purchase order a business priority
Start with a short order review. For each shipment, record the product, quantity, supplier, current production status and the date your business needs the stock available for use or sale.
Assign one of three priorities:
- Essential: a delay would interrupt production or prevent an existing customer commitment from being met.
- Important: the stock supports a planned promotion or replenishment, but you have alternatives.
- Flexible: the order can move later without an immediate operational problem.
Use those priorities when requesting freight options. Your forwarder can give a more useful response to “these two pallets support a confirmed customer order” than to “everything is urgent”.
Also identify the person authorised to approve extra transport costs. Agreeing that responsibility now avoids a second delay when a time-sensitive decision reaches your team.
Turn “ready soon” into a documented handover plan
Request a written supplier update that identifies what has been completed and what remains outstanding. Ask who can authorise the release of goods during the holiday period, and confirm the supplier’s own closing and reopening dates.
Use a simple handover record for each order:
- Purchase order reference and final goods description.
- Confirmed package count, packed dimensions and gross weight.
- Inspection or quality-release status.
- Collection address, access arrangements and site contact.
- Documents available now and documents still outstanding.
- The person responsible for confirming cargo handover.
Avoid treating a production estimate as proof that goods have been packed and released. Where several suppliers are involved, ask for a separate status update from each one.
Keep one shared version of this record. A revised packing list sent only to purchasing is of little use if the transport booking still reflects the earlier package count.
Ask specific questions about your freight option
Widoph Logistics offers full-container and less-than-container-load sea freight services. Its sea freight process includes pre-booking planning, documentation and transport coordination. Explore Widoph’s sea freight services.
When discussing an LCL shipment, ask for the consolidation warehouse’s receiving deadline and the next available option if one supplier misses it. For FCL, ask which equipment, collection and terminal deadlines apply to the proposed booking. Request written confirmation of the requirements relevant to your shipment.
Where air freight is being considered for urgent goods, request a separate quote for only the quantities needed to protect the immediate business commitment. Ask whether those goods are acceptable for the proposed service and what supporting information is required.
Compare the resulting options against the same delivery objective. A useful comparison should show what is included, what remains subject to confirmation and which costs could change.
Set a decision point before the shipment becomes urgent
Rather than repeatedly asking whether a shipment is “on track”, agree a date when your team will make a decision using the latest confirmed information.
For example, a retailer might decide that a small quantity of a priority product can justify a separate shipment, while the remaining stock can follow the original plan. This is an illustrative purchasing decision, not a promise that a particular transport option will be available or economical.
At the decision point, review three questions:
- Is the cargo actually ready for the proposed service?
- Does the latest delivery estimate still support the business need?
- Is the extra cost of an alternative justified by the consequence of waiting?
Record the decision and update the affected customer or internal team. Clear communication is particularly useful when an earlier delivery date was only an estimate.
Check the whole journey for onward shipments
If China-sourced goods are being received in Australia before an onward shipment to Nigeria, treat the two transport movements as connected planning tasks. Share the complete intended journey with your forwarder, including any repacking, storage or distribution work between legs.
Ask for the requirements and timing assumptions for each stage to be reviewed separately. Do not promise an onward dispatch date solely from the estimated arrival of the first shipment.
This is a different issue from general seasonal rate movements. Our Australia–Nigeria peak-season freight article provides related background; your current booking and written quote should guide the immediate decision.
Prepare your Golden Week enquiry with Widoph Logistics
Send the Widoph Logistics team your collection and delivery locations, goods description, package details, cargo-ready date and required delivery date. Include your order priorities and explain whether the shipment forms part of a longer supply chain.
Ask the team to review available routing, service scope and applicable deadlines for your cargo. This gives you a practical basis for choosing your next step before the holiday period begins.
